New Chair appointed at Cruse

We are delighted to announce that Dr Neil Churchill OBE has been appointed as Cruse Bereavement Support’s new Chair of the Board of Trustees.

October 1, 2024

This new appointment comes as Sir Tony Hawkhead ends a successful tenure as Chair.

Neil has extensive leadership experience in both the NHS and the charity sector. Alongside this his commitment to amplifying the voices and experiences of bereaved people will be an asset to Cruse. He also has a strong focus on volunteering and understanding of how information and support can help bereaved people, families and communities.

Neil is currently Director for People and Communities at NHS England, having joined in 2013. His 25-year career in the voluntary sector included national charities Barnardo’s, Crisis, Age Concern and Asthma UK.

I know from experience that bereavement brings a wave of emotions that need to be understood and processed. Throughout my career, I have recommended Cruse to bereaved people, and I know that the dedicated staff and volunteers offer invaluable assistance to people when they need it most. I am delighted to be joining Cruse at an important time, as we develop new ways of meeting high demand. The pandemic and post-pandemic world has affected all charities and given us new challenges and opportunities. By working together, we can make sure no one has to grieve alone.

Dr Neil Churchill OBE

I am thrilled to welcome Dr Neil Churchill as our newly appointed Chair, at an exciting and important time for Cruse. His extensive experience will be a real asset to Cruse and the bereaved people we support.

I look forward to working with Neil, as we refresh our strategy and ensure bereaved people are at the heart of all that we do.
